Dr. Ned Cassem's email exchange with Deacon Anthony Rizzuto, head of the Boston Archdiocese's Office of Child Advocacy. Implementation, and Oversight

Here Cassem indicates that he first circulated false information about Paul Edwards among the members of Cardinal Law's Commission for the Protection of Children, which was a clear violation of the premises upon which the Commission was founded, and then he had Rizzuto, who made no effort to ascertain the truth, pass it on to various Archdiocese officials, which was another direct violation of the rules that are supposed to govern investigation of sex abuse claims.

Since all of Cassem's assertions about Edwards are false, it's not clear if he made them up on his own or repeated fabrications crafted by Foster's legal and public relations team.

When Church investigator Sean Connor later pointed out that Cassem's outlandish statements about Edwards were not supported by any evidence, Cassem replied: "You are stuck on the wrong issue here—what are the FACTS, not what is the down and dirty truth.  You sounded like an enemy of Msgr. Foster."
