Who are we?
A diverse group of Catholics, survivors, and professional advocates who
seek immediate and practical solutions to the sex abuse crisis in the Catholic
Church.
|
|
What is our
purpose?
To support those
who have been sexually abused by clergy
To obtain justice for
victims
To hold
accountable those church leaders who are complicit in these crimes
To help prevent
future crimes of sexual abuse in the Church
|
|
What principles guide us?
Crimes committed by clergy
cannot be resolved by the Church hierarchy and should be handled by
secular authorities
True reparations to victims will include
full disclosure of all wrongdoing; genuine remorse,
and explicit acceptance of responsibility by the Church leaders who failed to
stop these crimes
To recover spiritually from this horror, Catholics and other concerned
people must stand in solidarity with survivor/victims, listen to their
stories, and take concrete action to prevent the Church from revictimizing those
whom it has harmed.
|
|
What are examples of what we're doing?
Working with elected
officials and government agencies to expose and correct the Church's
mishandling of sex abuse cases
Hooking up with legal
experts, public health workers, non-profit organizations, and
public interest groups
Lobbying legislators to
improve laws concerning sexual abuse
Pressuring the Church to
practice common decency and obey the law

"Each time a person strikes out against injustice, he sends a
tiny ripple
of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy
and daring, those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest
walls of repression and resistance." (Robert Kennedy, South Africa, 1966)
