Confidentiality agreements reportedly signed by Catholic dioceses during 2003 = 144*****

*For New Hampshire, the Church gave two different numbers: 26 confidentiality agreements were reported last October, but that number was reduced to 0 in the final report even though other aspects of the audit, including the time frame, remained the same.

**In some dioceses, the language used in the audit report made it impossible to determine how many confidentiality agreements were signed.

***We don't know how many confidentiality agreements were engineered by religious orders.

****We don't know if these confidentiality agreements were designed to keep victims' silent about the identities of perpetrators or if they were crafted to conceal collateral crimes such as violations of mandatory reporting laws.

*****A universal truth: We cannot draw conclusions from these numbers because we have no idea how many lawsuits remain unresolved.
